AEO guide

Make the service easy to understand before asking an AI system to cite it.

Answer engine optimisation works when the visible page is clear, specific and supportable. Schema can describe that answer; it cannot rescue a vague or unproven one.

Direct answerAEO combines answer-first copy, technical access, entity context, evidence, structured data and internal routes. It does not guarantee third-party citations.

Page-level checklist

Six foundations before scale.

  • A clear answer in the title, heading and opening paragraph
  • Specific services, audience and service area
  • Visible evidence that matches any structured data
  • Canonical, sitemap, robots and internal-link consistency
  • Fast, accessible pages with readable mobile content
  • A useful next action for the buyer behind the query

Common failure

Schema-first theatre.

Adding large JSON-LD blocks, inflated claims and repetitive FAQs does not make a page more trustworthy. Visible buyer value and supportable evidence come first.

AEO questions

What optimisation can—and cannot—control.

Treat answer visibility as a competitive surface, not a guaranteed placement product.

What is answer engine optimisation?

AEO is the work of making a page easy for people and answer systems to understand, verify and route. It combines clear answers, entity context, technical accessibility, structured data, internal links and credible evidence.

Does AEO guarantee a citation in ChatGPT or another AI tool?

No. Halo can improve clarity and machine-readable context, but no provider controls whether an independent answer system cites a page.

Is AEO different from SEO?

It overlaps with SEO. Good AEO strengthens direct answers, evidence and structure while conventional SEO still covers crawlability, intent, authority, internal linking and useful page experience.
